"The World of Orchids" show at the San Diego Botanic Gardens in Encinitas opens tomorrow March 11 and runs thru Sunday, April 9. Members of both the San Diego County Orchid Society (SDCOS) and Palomar Orchid Society (POS) have contributed orchids to the exhibit. Rene van Rems, well-known floral designer, is once again in charge of the show’s design. SDCOS, POS and vendors such as Ecuagenera and Everything Orchids will be selling plants on the weekends. Orchid Digest will host the Paphiopedilum Guild meeting and show at the Huntington Botanical Gardens on Saturday, Feb. 18. Speakers will be Brandon Tam, Harold Koopowitz, Frank Cervera and Theresa Hill. Topics to be covered include “Culture of Slipper Orchids” , “The Phragmipediums of Brazil” and more. The Southern California Spring Garden Show takes place April 21-24 at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Fiesta Parade Floats, the organization that designs floats for the Rose Parade, has designed a unique botanical display. Vendors will be selling all types of plants, including orchids. The San Diego Botanic Garden is holding an orchid exhibit in their new conservatory using orchids owned by members of the San Diego County Orchid Society, the Palomar Orchid Society and select plants from commercial nurseries. Creative Director Rene van Rems and his team have designed a beautiful exhibit within a naturalistic setting. Also on display are floral arrangements that utilize orchid blooms. There will also be orchids for sale during weekends. Admission is included with paid admission to the gardens. Exhibit runs through May 2.
